About the job

Solar Interconnection Engineer

📍 Nashville, TN (Hybrid)

We are hiring a Solar Interconnection Engineer on behalf of our client, a fast-growing renewable energy developer. This is your chance to play a key role in connecting solar projects to the grid, supporting community, commercial, and distributed generation projects across multiple regions. If you’re a technical problem-solver who thrives on utility coordination, interconnection strategy, and innovative solutions, this role is for you.

About the Role

As a Solar Interconnection Engineer, you will be the go-to expert for utility interconnection, leading the planning, analysis, and execution of strategies that get projects online efficiently, cost-effectively, and compliantly. You’ll partner with utilities, internal teams, and stakeholders to ensure every project meets technical and regulatory standards.

This role spans all stages of development—from feasibility and site assessment to construction readiness—while offering opportunities to mentor teams and shape internal processes.

What You’ll Do

Utility Interconnection & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on interconnection policies, tariffs, technical standards, and regulations across multiple utilities.

  • Review and apply utility requirements to create optimized, compliant designs.

  • Lead preparation and submission of interconnection applications, coordinating with external engineers when needed.

  • Interface with utility engineers to advocate for cost-effective solutions and resolve technical challenges.

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients regarding interconnection matters.

Document Management & Compliance

  • Maintain and improve interconnection documentation, standards, and templates.

  • Ensure internal processes comply with evolving codes, standards, and regulations.

  • Perform technical quality control reviews of internal and external interconnection submissions.

Collaboration & Strategic Support

  • Work closely with project teams (electrical, civil, structural) during early development and feasibility assessments.

  • Provide technical guidance throughout project design and development to ensure interconnection feasibility aligns with site constraints.

  • Analyze interconnection trends, approval timelines, and upgrade costs to inform business strategy.

  • Support planning based on utility capacity, queue analysis, and regulatory changes.

Process Improvement & Mentorship

  • Develop templates, checklists, and standards for efficient interconnection documentation.

  • Mentor and train internal staff on interconnection processes.

  • Continuously improve workflow efficiency and document management practices.

Preferred Background

We’re looking for candidates with experience in:

  • Solar developer engineering teams managing interconnection strategy and utility coordination.

  • Utility engineering, evaluating and approving solar interconnection applications.

  • EPC or consulting engineers preparing interconnection packages across multiple utilities and jurisdictions.

  • Hybrid experience across these areas is especially valuable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience with solar PV or energy storage interconnection applications.

  • Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, NESC, and utility interconnection standards.

  • Skilled in reading and preparing single-line diagrams (SLDs) and interconnection drawings.

  • Experience with grid modeling tools (CYME, SKM, PSCAD, PSS/E) is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to support both ground-mounted and commercial/industrial development teams, including pre-development feasibility, interconnection agreements, and stakeholder coordination.

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Work on

high-impact solar and energy storage projects

    across multiple regions.

  • Advance your career in a

    rapidly growing renewable energy company.

  • Competitive salary and

    performance-based bonuses.

  • Comprehensive benefits, including

401(k), flexible PTO, and professional development support.
