Job Title: Solar Interconnection Engineer
Location: Remote (U.S.) – Quarterly travel required
About the Role:
We are seeking a Solar Interconnection Engineer to join a fast-growing renewable energy developer with a strong pipeline of community and distribution-scale solar projects across multiple U.S. markets (MD, IL, VA, PA). This role is fully remote, with occasional travel for team meetings.
The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated problem solver with strong technical expertise and excellent communication skills. You’ll be responsible for managing and advancing the interconnection process across distributed generation solar projects, ensuring timelines and compliance while working closely with utilities and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Act as the subject matter expert on interconnection requirements, policies, tariffs, and technical standards across multiple jurisdictions.
Develop and manage interconnection application packages with support from third-party engineers.
Coordinate directly with utilities to facilitate reviews, resolve technical issues, and advocate for cost-effective solutions.
Push back respectfully on excessive or unnecessary upgrade requirements and help expedite timelines where possible.
Provide technical reviews of single-line diagrams, interconnection drawings, and related documentation.
Support internal development teams with feasibility assessments, site evaluations, and early-stage project planning.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and interconnection regulations, ensuring compliance.
Train and mentor staff on interconnection processes, documentation, and best practices.
Analyze interconnection trends to inform project and business strategy.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
5+ years of experience with solar PV or energy storage interconnection applications.
Strong understanding of utility-scale and distribution-scale solar interconnection requirements.
Proficiency with tools such as Helioscope and PVSyst (CAD familiarity a plus).
Experience with grid modeling tools (e.g., CYME, SKM, PSCAD, PSS/E) is beneficial.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions with utilities and stakeholders.
Highly organized with strong document management skills.
