Position Summary:
The Commercial Project Engineer will play a critical role in the planning, design, and execution of C&I solar projects. This position bridges the gap between project development, engineering, and construction teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the engineering design and technical planning for commercial and industrial solar projects.
Develop single-line diagrams, electrical layouts, and interconnection plans in compliance with NEC, local codes, and utility requirements.
Collaborate with sales, permitting, and construction teams to ensure accurate project scoping and seamless execution.
Conduct feasibility studies, system sizing, and performance modeling for proposed solar installations.
Review and approve technical submittals, vendor equipment, and material specifications.
Support utility interconnection processes, including application submissions and coordination with utility engineers.
Perform site visits to evaluate conditions, assess risks, and verify design assumptions.
Troubleshoot technical issues during construction and commissioning phases.
Maintain project documentation, drawings, and records in accordance with company standards.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering (or related field).
3+ years of experience in solar project engineering, preferably in C&I projects.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, or similar solar design software.
Familiarity with NEC codes, utility interconnection standards, and state-specific solar regulations.
Strong understanding of electrical systems, inverters, racking, and balance-of-system components.
Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with CT utility interconnection processes.
Knowledge of energy storage integration and hybrid solar solutions.
Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT certification.
