Job Title: Solar Master/Journeyman Electrician

Location:Kansas City, MO or Chicago, IL

Department:Solar Division

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and licensedSolar Master or Journeyman Electricianto join our client's growing solar division. This is a critical hands-on role for an experienced electrician who is passionate about renewable energy and wants to play a key role in delivering high-quality residential and small commercial solar installations.

You’ll be responsible for overseeing electrical work on-site, ensuring all systems are installed safely, up to code, and with the highest workmanship standards. You will also help guide and mentor junior electricians and apprentices, troubleshoot system issues, and coordinate with installation teams, project managers, and utility inspectors.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Installation & Safety:

  • Install and wire solar PV systems (including inverters, batteries, disconnects, and monitoring systems) according to NEC and local codes.

  • Ensure all work meets or exceeds safety and code compliance standards.

  • Coordinate with utility companies for interconnection and inspections.

Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Lead by example on job sites, setting standards for safety, efficiency, and quality.

  • Supervise and train electrical apprentices and junior installers.

  • Communicate clearly with project managers regarding job progress, delays, or challenges.

Troubleshooting & Quality Control:

  • Perform system diagnostics and troubleshoot electrical or performance issues.

  • Conduct quality control checks and final inspections to ensure optimal performance.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Complete all required documentation, including inspection forms, test reports, and material usage logs.

  • Stay current on local code changes, safety protocols, and utility requirements.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the solar installation crew, permitting team, and engineering to execute projects on time and within budget.

  • Provide feedback on system design and recommend field-based improvements when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Missouri Journeyman or Master Electrician license (or ability to transfer from another state).

  • 3–7+ years of experience in residential or commercial electrical work, with at least 1–2 years in solar preferred.

  • Deep knowledge of NEC code, PV system wiring, and solar equipment.

  • Experience with battery energy storage systems (Tesla Powerwall, Enphase, etc.) is a strong plus.

  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams and electrical plans.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.

  • Must have a clean driving record and be able to pass background and drug checks.
