Civil Engineering Manager
Summary
A confidential and fast-growing renewable energy developer is seeking a Civil Engineering Manager to lead civil engineering efforts for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. This leadership role involves managing the civil engineering team, overseeing project execution, and ensuring quality across all deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a civil engineering team: assign tasks, mentor junior staff, and balance workload to meet project timelines
Serve as Civil Engineer of Record on assigned projects
Conduct QA/QC reviews on engineering drawings and deliverables
Train junior engineers on plan development and design best practices
Collaborate with internal leadership on current and future engineering projects
Develop grading, drainage, erosion control, and civil site designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Prepare comprehensive base maps and utilize data from surveys and public sources
Interpret zoning, permitting, and code requirements for accurate and compliant design
Coordinate with survey teams and review geotechnical/environmental reports
Create Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and hydrology/hydraulics reports in line with local and federal regulations
Stay current with national codes and renewable energy civil standards
Support estimating and scheduling efforts with civil-related inputs
Attend agency meetings and represent the engineering team with clients and stakeholders
Provide value engineering recommendations to optimize design and reduce costs
Occasional travel to project sites or meetings as required
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution
6+ years of experience in civil land development, grading/drainage design, or renewable energy
Experience with utility-scale solar PV projects
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D
Experience in team or project management
Familiarity with structural, geotechnical, and surveying concepts
Knowledge of GIS tools such as ArcGIS is a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented and quality-driven
